How to Improve Your Home’s Efficiency

You want to keep your home as comfortable as possible over the next several months. But at what cost?

The answer should be that it shouldn’t cost too much to keep your home cool. Yes, it will still cost money but this shouldn’t be an issue that costs you your life savings! So, if your AC is already costing you more money than usual to run, it may be time to look into some reasons why.

We are here to help! Come to our team for helpful tips to improve your overall home efficiency so you can enjoy better home comfort without crazy high bills.

5 Ways to Get the Best Energy Efficiency This Season

Here are some helpful ideas to improve your energy usage this summer without undermining your overall home comfort.

1. Keep doors and windows closed.

We all enjoy some fresh air now and then. But opening a window or door to let the warm hot air outside into your house will only increase the amount of work your air conditioner has to do. And this means more energy is used! Keep those doors and windows closed throughout the summer heat to ensure that the cool air your AC provides stays indoors where it belongs.

2. Raise the temperature on the thermostat.

We understand that it may seem like a good idea to lower the temperature on your thermostat to keep your home cooler but in some cases, you may want to raise the temperature. Keeping the thermostat set around 75 to 78° will keep your home comfortable and will ensure good energy efficiency. If you are trying to keep the temperature down around 68 to 70° this is likely to use far more energy than is needed.

3. Keep windows and blinds to south-facing windows closed

Those south-facing windows are going to be the main source of sunlight entering your home, along with all the heat that it carries. Keep the blinds or curtains on those windows drawn and closed to keep the sunlight and keep the overall temperature in the home easier to manage. This will reduce your air conditioner’s workload and energy use.

4. Use a ceiling fan to keep yourself cooler

Are you worried about raising the temperature on your thermostat? Then turning on a fan may help! Using your ceiling fan doesn’t cool the air itself but it does help you feel cooler because it helps increase the evaporation of sweat–your body’s natural cooling process. This will make it easier to raise the temperature on the thermostat which will help you lower your energy use and save money.

5. Schedule AC maintenance and repairs

Running your air conditioner shouldn’t cost more money than normal. This is why we advise scheduling AC maintenance and repairs in a timely manner. Yearly maintenance helps you get the best efficiency level from your AC when you run it and repairs help keep the system running properly.
